Orthotics

The symptoms of poor foot mechanics can include any one of the following:

  • Localized foot pain
  • Bunions, hammer toes
  • Arch/heel pain
  • Leg/knee pain
  • Hip or back pain

A custom orthotic is a device designed to align the foot and ankle into the most anatomically efficient position. They look like insoles, but are biomechemical medical appliances that are custom made to correct your specific foot imbalance.

Golf Injuries

One of the keys to performance on the golf course is the biomechanics of the golf swing. There are multiple ways to swing a golf club and one most efficient way for each person. Poor conditioning and limitations of the body can lead to a breakdown in efficiency and ultimately a poorer golf game. Limitations of the body will affect the alternating pattern of mobility and stability within the body. If this pattern is altered, dysfunction and compensation will occur.

Surface Electromyography (sEMG)

Doctors need to assess muscle function associated with patients’ impairments. Surface Electromyography (sEMG) helps doctors identify relationships and patterns between muscles that assist in creating effective care plans. sEMG measures the amount of naturally emitted electrical activity your muscles release when contracting. This is a completely non-invasive test and takes about 3 minutes to perform. The patient stands in a neutral posture and metal electrodes are placed to the patients back on either side of the spine at designated levels. This test gives the doctor a bar graph reading (as seen on the page) that indicates areas of high or low voltage. This image allows the doctor to present the patient with a quantifiable and easily understood image of the patient’s muscle activity. It shows what the doctor can feel through palpation and gives both doctor and patient a way to track and discuss progress.
